Lok Sabha Session LIVE Updates: Newly-elected MPs to take oath, session likely to be stormy

The first session of the 18th Lok Sabha will begin today with newly-elected MPs, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, taking the oath from 11 am onwards. This is the first Parliament session after the general elections were held from April to June. Pro tem Speaker Bhartruhari Mahtab, a seven-time MP, will administer the oath to the new members of the House. 280 newly-elected MPs, including PM Modi and his Council of Ministers, will take oath, today, while 264 newly-elected parliamentarians will take oath the next day (June 25). After the oath, it will be followed by the election of the Speaker on June 26 and President Droupadi Murmu's address to a joint sitting of both Houses on June 27. The Opposition-led INDIA bloc, buoyed by its improved showing in the Lok Sabha polls, where it won 234 seats compared to 293 by NDA, is likely to raise several issues in the House, including NEET-NET row, the appointment of Bhartruhari Mahtab as pro tem speaker and the Kanchanjunga train accident.
