Pakistan Election 2024 Live Updates: Imran Khan, Nawaz Sharif claim poll win ahead of result; no clear victor in sight
Pakistan election 2024 Live updates: The official result for the Pakistan general elections is yet awaited, even as voting to elect a new government in the country was completed by 5.30 pm (IST) on Thursday. According to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the results of more than 220 constituencies have been declared, showing that independents won 92 seats, PML-N 63, PPP 50, Muttahida Qaumi Movement 12 and other parties got 7 seats. The independents were supported by Imran Khan's party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, and they could join any party after elections except the PTI because its intra-party elections were declared null and void and it was deprived of a common symbol before elections. Meanwhile, former Pakistani Prime Ministers and bitter rivals – Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan, on Friday, declared individual victory in elections marred by delayed results and militant attacks, throwing the country into further political turmoil.
