Supreme Court on candidate's right to privacy and disclosures of assets
Supreme Court: The Hon’ble Court has tried to protect the right to privacy of the candidates, while balancing the electors’ right to know under Article 19 as well as the test of reasonable classification, rational nexus, and the test of proportionality. The ruling has made a very important point in saying that, only the information that is having the tendency to impact the public image of the candidate and the choice of the elector in deciding their candidate of choice- should be disclosed and the rest can be left undisclosed.
