Pakistan Elections 2024 Live: Voting to elect new government underway, mobile phone services suspended
Voting for general elections in Pakistan began at 8.30 am (IST) on Thursday. The main contests are between candidates backed by jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan, whose Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party won the last national election, and the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) of three-time premier Nawaz Sharif, who is considered the front-runner. The contest also involves the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) of Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, who has been declared as the party's prime minister face. An official assessment report suggested that the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz would likely emerge as the single largest party.
